Grey Nurse Shark Minister Agrees to Further Research

The Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson has agreed to encourage ACORF to consider carrying out further research into the Grey Nurse Shark particularly in relation to surface bait fishing. The good news is that Fisheries themselves have agreed that this research should be carried out by an independent authority.

It has long been argued that the research leading up to fishing restrictions at Fish Rock was flawed and it is a small concession by the Minister that research into surface bait fishing at GNS aggregation site was not carried out at all. This is of course the most common form of fishing at this site.

We wait with baited breath (pardon the pun) for the results of this research.
